Eagle Valley Speedway

With clear skies, warm temperatures, a nice car count, and a nearly full grandstand, racing resumed at Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday, May 17.

Sunday’s racing saw three racers get their first Eagle Valley Speedway win of the year and three racers earned repeat wins.

Week number two of the 2009 racing season at Eagle Valley Speedway saw Defending National Champion, Kevin “Buzzy” Adams picking up his fifth feature win of the season in the WISSOTA Modified division. In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Paul Erikson picked up his first-ever feature win at Eagle Valley Speedway and Matt Leer picked up his first win of the season in his WISSOTA Midwest Modified. Cory Crapser picked up his second win in as many nights by dominating the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Cody Kummer cruised to his first 2009 win in the Eagle Valley Pure Stock division, and Mike Peters won a hard fought victory in the Eagle Valley Hornets.

Eagle Valley Speedway officially opened the gates for the 2009 racing season Sunday night, May 3, after two successive weekends of being weathered out.

In the WISSOTA Modified division, Craig Thatcher returned to the winner’s circle, Shane Kisling picked up his third feature win of the year in the WISSOTA Super Stock division, Mark Gerth got the win in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, Cory Crapser dominated the WISSOTA Street Stocks, George Richards bested all Eagle Valley Pure Stocks, and long distance traveler, Johny Severtson of LaCrosse, WI, took the win in the Eagle Valley Hornet division.

The 2008 Eagle Valley Banquet and Awards Ceremony was held on January 17, 2009, at the Old Barn on the Eagle Valley track property located near Jim Falls, WI. There was an excellent turnout of drivers, sponsors, workers, and fans who enjoyed a great night of socializing.

The evening festivities began with a social hour from 7:00 to 8:00. At approximately 8:00 Jerry Weigel made some introductory remarks which were followed by a delicious meal prepared primarily by Janis and Jerry Weigel. After completion of the meal, the awards were presented to the top ten in each division and the rookie of the year in each division was announced.

In his comments to those present, Jerry Weigel thanked all those who contributed in some way to making the 2008 racing season a success. He specifically singled out his wife, Janis, his daughter, and his son-in-law for all they did throughout the year, including moral support. He also had high praise for all of the drivers who supported the track, the fans, the race car sponsors, the track sponsors, and all the track workers.

A nearly perfect weather night greeted those in attendance at Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday, August 24, as they enjoyed the night’s races presented by River Country Coop. Just one race remains on the schedule, that being the seventh annual Lonnie Leu Memorial on August 31 with enhanced pay in all classes provided by Southworth Chevrolet and Lisa Leu. Races previously scheduled for September 5 and 6 have been cancelled.

In WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified action, Dan Hesch and Kevin Rogers started on the front row with Hesch taking an early lead. A caution for heat winner, Mike Anderson, spinning in turns three and four, prior to the completion of lap three, resulted in Anderson going to the pits with his night done and the field being reset with Hesch once again taking the lead.
